BA of the Week: Ryan Doyle in Mud Hole Patrol

One trip the county fair was all it took for for Ryan Doyle to decide he needed a new truck. Since tickets were sold out, Doyle and his friend had to watch the mud bog from outside the fence. Offroading since he was 15 years old, he was no stranger to adrenaline induced lifestyle, but after that day, he decided to take it to the next level.

“I was always competitive since I was young,” said Doyle. “I went from racing nitro rc monster trucks to dirt track go karts to dirt bikes to mega trucks.”

Doyle had always bought old trucks, cut the fenders and slapped the biggest tires he could find on them, for cheap.  But four years ago, after the trip to the county fair, his mega truck lifestyle would change forever.

“The very next day I picked up what is now Mud Hole Patrol,” said Doyle. “It was that body welded solidly onto a Ram Charger frame that was cracked and rotted. Used it for about a year before I scrapped everything but the drive train and body and built the new truck.”

Doyle explains the truck was built from the ground up with the help of a few buddies over a 6 month period. “I couldn’t have done it without their help,” he said.

Trucks Gone Wild in Poland, NY is Doyle’s favorite park/event and he said it is growing into a bigger and better event each year. “The guys who run it are great guys who love the hobby just as much as anyone else and really do it for everyone to have a good time,” he said.

WD: Tell us one fun fact about your truck?
Doyle: While we were trying to figure out a name for the truck, Junior Browns, “Highway Patrol” song came on the radio. And that’s where the name came from

WD: Married? Kids? Are they involved?
Doyle: Not married and No kids. However, have a awesome girlfriend that is very supportive of the “all nighters” I pull at the fab shop frequently lol

WD: If you could get behind the wheel of any other truck which would it be? A favorite truck besides your own?
Doyle: Hard to choose just one. But would have to be Ryan Camp’s Sick 50 or Scott Green’s Sail. Awesome trucks driven by awesome dudes.

WD: Do you have any rituals or habits prior to a race day?
Doyle: You ever see Days of Thunder. Where he’s talking to the chassis of the race car. Kinda like that but with a truck lol

WD: What do you think the most important part of a truck is?
Doyle: Without a doubt a driver. You can have a 200K truck But without a good driver it’s not going to be much better than a good driver in a 15 k truck

WD: If you could vacation anywhere in the world where would you go?
Doyle: I’d have to say I would love to stay in the amazing country. Probably a trip to Ironhorse Mud Ranch. Heard lots of great things but have yet to make it down there.

WD: What is your daily driver?
Doyle: My daily driver also doubles as my tow rig to all the events we go to. It’s a 1996 f350 with a 7.3. 240k on the odometer and still going strong!

We asked Doyle what keeps him in the game and he said, “The love of it!”

“I love strapping in the truck and firing it up and getting that adrenaline rush. When I loose that Rush is the day I’ll start looking for a new hobby.”
